Minorities are under represented in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). In rural Mississippi, many children do not know how to navigate the path to success in these areas. Many of them have never attended a robotics competition or heard of a robotics team, and many of them will become first generation college graduates. Dorothy’s Legacy wants to give these students the competitive edge that will give them the confidence to pursue a career in the STEM fields.
Our world is dominated by science and technology, and as technology continues to expand, occupations in STEM will continue to grow. Our vision is to see more minorities from the Mississippi Delta take advantage of STEM opportunities by pursuing majors in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Integrating a STEM component within the program will make a long-lasting impact on our community and in the lives of our children.
